Governor Mutfwang Calls for Higher Professional Standards at COREN 34th Engineering Assembly

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has called on engineering professionals across Nigeria to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, accountability, and patriotism as the nation seeks sustainable development and improved public safety.

The governor made the call while representing the Nigeria Governors’ Forum at the 34th Engineering Assembly of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), held at the Velodrome, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The Assembly, themed “Advancing Public Safety in Nigeria through Strategic Engineering Regulation, Enforcement, and a Tiered Sanctioning Regime,” brought together engineering professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the country to discuss measures aimed at strengthening engineering practice and enhancing public safety.

Speaking during the event, Governor Mutfwang emphasized the critical role engineers play in national development, noting that state governments rely heavily on the expertise, guidance, and ethical conduct of engineering professionals in delivering durable infrastructure and promoting sustainable growth.

He stressed the need for the profession to maintain excellence while embracing innovation and promoting indigenous capacity to accelerate Nigeria’s development.

The governor also commended members of the engineering profession for their commitment to excellence and their efforts in championing local content in the execution of critical infrastructure projects nationwide. According to him, the wealth of knowledge and experience within the profession continues to make significant contributions to nation-building.

The Assembly featured goodwill messages and keynote addresses from several prominent figures, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Works, Engr. Sen. David Nweze Umahi; National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; Founder and President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote; and COREN President, Engr. Prof. Sadiq Zubair Abubakar, alongside other leaders in the engineering sector.

Governor Mutfwang congratulated COREN on the successful hosting of the 34th Engineering Assembly and expressed confidence that the resolutions reached during the conference would strengthen engineering practice, enhance public safety, and contribute to Nigeria’s sustainable development.
