Plateau United Fight Back to Share Points with Warri Wolves in Jos

Plateau United had to come from behind to avoid a home defeat as they played out a 1-1 draw with Warri Wolves at the New Jos Stadium on Sunday.

The Peace Boys fell behind in the first half through Emmanuel Aribogha but found a response after the break, with substitute Samuel Ayanrinde scoring to earn them a point in their Matchday 11 fixture.

Plateau started the game with attacking intent and created some early opportunities. Jonathan Okechukwu tested Warri Wolves goalkeeper Bamidele Adeniyi from distance, while Jibril Ibrahim and Victor Dawa also threatened as the hosts looked for an early breakthrough.

But Warri Wolves grew into the contest and took the lead in the 24th minute. Aribogha finished a cross into the box to put the visitors ahead, leaving Plateau with a deficit to overcome.

The hosts pushed for an equaliser before half-time, but Adeniyi made important saves to keep Warri Wolves in front.

After the restart, Plateau continued to search for a way back into the game. Warri Wolves almost doubled their advantage through Victor Dawa, whose effort from inside the box went over the crossbar.

That proved to be a costly miss as Plateau found their equaliser in the 60th minute. Ayanrinde, who had come on three minutes earlier for the injured Nenrot Silas, made an immediate impact by scoring to bring the game level.

The substitute nearly scored again shortly afterwards, but Adeniyi denied him. The Warri Wolves goalkeeper also kept out Jibril Ibrahim’s direct free-kick as the game approached its closing stages.

Both teams had opportunities to find a winner, but neither could make the most of them, and the match ended in a draw.

Plateau United’s Alex Agahowa was shown a red card after the final whistle.

Plateau United UP NEXT

The result means Plateau United will have to turn their attention to their next assignment, an away meeting with Nasarawa United. Warri Wolves, meanwhile, will host Katsina United as both sides look ahead to Matchday 12.
