Plateau United will be aiming to return to winning ways when they travel to face Katsina United in a Matchday 10 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Saturday, October 24th, at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.
The Peace Boys head into the encounter in fourth place with 14 points, while Katsina United sit 12th with 12 points, leaving just two points between the sides ahead of the meeting.
Gbenga Ogunbote’s men will be eager to respond after suffering their first home defeat of the season, a 3-2 loss to Sporting Lagos in Jos last weekend.
Despite taking a 2-1 lead into half-time through Victor Dawa’s brace, Plateau United were unable to hold on as Sporting Lagos scored twice after the break to claim all three points. Alex Agahowa’s dismissal in the 79th minute further complicated the hosts’ efforts to salvage a result.
The defeat followed a 2-0 loss away to Enyimba, although Plateau United had previously recorded convincing victories over Kano Pillars and Inter Lagos, beating the former 4-0 and the latter 2-0.
Those results underline the Peace Boys’ attacking potential, but the recent setbacks have also highlighted the need for greater defensive concentration and better game management, particularly when playing away from home.
Against Katsina United, Plateau United will need to find the right balance between their attacking ambitions and defensive responsibilities. Their high defensive line was repeatedly exposed by Sporting Lagos’ pace and long balls behind the defence, an issue Ogunbote’s side will be keen to address before Sunday’s encounter.
Katsina United, meanwhile, will look to take advantage of playing in front of their home supporters. The hosts have won three of their last four home matches across all competitions, including a 4-2 victory over Enyimba on October 9 and a 2-1 win against Doma United. They have also recorded draws against Rivers United and Inter Lagos during that period.
However, Katsina United suffered a 1-0 away defeat to Kano Pillars in their most recent outing and will be hoping to respond against a Plateau United side sitting above them in the standings.
Recent head-to-head meetings also suggest the Peace Boys face a demanding assignment. Katsina United have won three of the last six encounters between the clubs, while Plateau United have recorded two victories, with the other meeting ending in a draw.
Their most recent meeting at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, on January 24, 2026, ended goalless. Katsina United had also secured a 2-1 away victory over Plateau United on August 31, 2025, before recording a 1-0 home win in January 2025.
With both teams separated by only two points, Sunday’s contest presents an important opportunity for either side to strengthen its position in the league table.
Plateau United will hope Victor Dawa and the rest of their attacking unit can maintain their threat in front of goal, while improved defensive organisation and discipline will be crucial against a Katsina United side with a strong recent home record.
A positive result would help the Peace Boys recover from their disappointment against Sporting Lagos and consolidate their place among the league’s leading teams as the season progresses.
