The BARC Farms Project in Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, has entered a new phase as Governor Caleb Mutfwang flags off the construction of six large poultry houses, each with the capacity to hold between 120,000 and 125,000 birds.

This expansion is part of the Plateau Youth Agricultural Empowerment Programme (P-YAEP) a flagship initiative aimed at empowering 1,000 Plateau youths through mechanized farming, agribusiness development, and modern agricultural practices.

Governor Mutfwang’s administration has made significant investments in the project, providing fertilizers, herbicides, modern equipment, accommodation, feeding, security, and technical training to ensure sustainable and efficient farm operations.
Under the programme, each youth participant has been allocated one hectare of farmland to cultivate crops such as maize, rice, beans, and guinea corn, while receiving practical training in large-scale crop production and the use of modern machinery.

The project is being managed by Mr. Jan James Tujay, a young and dynamic project manager leading a team of experts and trainees dedicated to transforming BARC Farms into a hub of agricultural innovation in Plateau State.
Beyond the poultry facilities, the government is also constructing a three-storey administrative block, a cattle ranch, and a piggery, while revamping over 10 large fish ponds that had been neglected for years. Efforts are also underway to cultivate Napier grass for livestock feed production.
To promote learning, innovation, and productivity, the Mutfwang administration has equipped the farm with Starlink satellite internet and recreational amenities, making it a youth-friendly and technology-driven agricultural environment.

Stakeholders have applauded Governor Mutfwang’s visionary leadership and commitment to agricultural revitalization, describing the developments at BARC Farms as a milestone for youth empowerment, food security, and economic growth across Plateau State.
