Plateau State has been announced as the host of the upcoming North Central Zonal Transport Conference, organized by the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA).
With the theme “Transforming Transport Infrastructure for Sustainable Economic Development in Nigeria”, the event will focus on reshaping the transport sector’s narrative and charting a roadmap for improved transportation across the North Central region.

CIoTA President and Chairman of Council, Prince (Dr.) Segun Chuko Obayendo, revealed that the conference will unite government officials, private sector leaders, development partners, academics, and innovators to tackle pressing transport challenges. Sessions will include keynote speeches and technical paper presentations on topics such as:
• Public-private partnerships in transport
• Innovations in transport technologies
• Financing transportation projects
• Sustainable and climate-friendly transport solutions

Plateau State’s Honourable Commissioner of Transport, Hon. Davou Gyang Jatau, expressed appreciation to CIoTA for selecting Plateau as the venue, while thanking Governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for his commitment to hosting the event. He noted the administration’s investments in the transport sector, including the revival of the railway system and the introduction of metro buses.

The conference will take place from August 27 to 29, 2025, in Jos, Plateau State. According to Prince Obayendo, discussions will also explore how successful models from Lagos State such as LAMATA and LASTMA can be adapted for the North Central region.
Distinguished speakers will include Prof. Ibrahim Choji, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, Dr. Danjuma Ismaila, and others. The goal is to deliver actionable and measurable recommendations to transform transport infrastructure and services in the region.

CIoTA expressed confidence that the conference will drive sustainable growth, connect communities, and position the North Central as a hub for economic opportunity. With a focus on practical solutions and impactful partnerships, the event is expected to be a major milestone in Nigeria’s transport development.
The program will conclude with tours of selected tourist attractions and visits to transport and logistics facilities within Jos on the final day.
