First Two Beneficiaries Begin Postgraduate Studies in the U.S. Under Governor Mutfwang’s International Education Program
The Plateau State Government has officially launched a historic international postgraduate scholarship program, sending the first cohort of engineering students to pursue Master’s degrees at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, USA.

This initiative, which marks a significant milestone in Plateau’s pursuit of global academic collaboration, is the outcome of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s strategic engagement with Liberty University during his official visit in 2023. The program targets top-performing Plateau indigenes and aims to equip them with advanced skills to drive development back home.
The first two recipients, Sunday G. Joseph and Nansar Clement Jangfa, were formally presented to Governor Mutfwang at the Government House in Rayfield on Friday, August 1, 2025, ahead of their departure for the United States.

“This is a bold step towards building the future of Plateau State,” Governor Mutfwang declared. “Beyond acquiring degrees, you are going as ambassadors of your people. Return transformed and ready to make impact.”
The ceremony was witnessed by key government stakeholders, including representatives of the Ministry of Education and the Plateau State Scholarship Board. Executive Secretary of the Board, Mr. Nankus Ngwalang, affirmed that the selection process was rigorous and merit-based.
“We followed due process with transparency and fairness. The chosen scholars represent both academic excellence and geographical inclusivity,” Ngwalang said.

According to him, after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Liberty University, the Ministry of Higher Education received 91 applications 74 for Master’s programs and 17 for Ph.D. programs. Final selections were based on aptitude tests and academic records, weighted equally.
