The Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA), under the leadership of its Director General, Mr. Samuel N. Dapiya, has officially launched Phases I and II of the Green Initiative an ambitious campaign to plant one million trees across Plateau State by 2027.
The launch event brought together dignitaries, commissioners, community leaders, and stakeholders, all united by a common vision: restoring Plateau’s environment and safeguarding its future.

Plateau State has faced growing environmental threats, including widespread deforestation, uncontrolled tree felling, and the impacts of mining activities. These practices have left visible scars on the land, driven up temperatures, and put pressure on both biodiversity and community livelihoods.

The Green Initiative is PEPSA’s bold response. By setting a target of one million trees, the agency seeks not only to combat land degradation and reduce carbon emissions but also to restore vital ecosystems that support water preservation, soil health, and community resilience.
The initiative has received wide support, with government officials, agency representatives, and local leaders lending their voices at the launch. Their participation underscores a powerful message: environmental protection is a shared responsibility that requires collaboration across all sectors.

While tree planting sits at the heart of the Green Initiative, the vision extends much further. It represents a long-term investment in sustainability, focusing on ecosystem restoration, climate action, and creating a greener, healthier Plateau for generations to come.

As PEPSA’s Volunteer Vanguards and community partners take the lead in this campaign, the Green Initiative is set to become a model of how bold action, local engagement, and strong leadership can drive meaningful environmental change.
