As Governor Caleb Mutfwang recently marked his second year in office, Plateau State is emerging as a central player in Nigeria’s digital revolution. Against the backdrop of political uncertainty and economic pressure across the country, Governor Mutfwang has steadily carved out a new narrative for Plateau state. One that prioritizes innovation, technological advancement, and youth empowerment. His administration’s strides in the tech sector demonstrate a rare combination of vision, execution, and purpose.

Governor Mutfwang made a resolute promise to the people of Plateau when he assumed office in 2023.
“We have come with the right mindset; we will continue to summon the political will to ensure the promotion of the right policies and to introduce initiatives that will benefit the people of Plateau. We didn’t come this far to sleep on duty,” he declared.
These words have since guided a governance model that treats technology not merely as a luxury. It is a lifeline to economic transformation.
Within his first two years, the governor has introduced a structured digital transformation agenda. This agenda is now beginning to yield visible results. Under his watch, Plateau State has begun implementing real-time performance monitoring systems within the government. This lays the groundwork for digitized governance and improved service delivery. Internet infrastructure has seen a marked improvement. The administration is also pushing for high-speed connectivity and waiving right-of-way charges to encourage private-sector investment in broadband expansion.
Therefore, this commitment to digitization gained national attention in December 2024, when the state hosted a landmark Tech Advancement Summit. The summit convened some of the brightest minds in Nigerian tech and policy, setting the tone for Plateau’s bold entrance into the digital economy. Far from being a ceremonial event, the summit served as a catalyst. The conversations and commitments forged there have evolved into concrete action.
One of the most significant outcomes is the launch of a three-year training program aimed at equipping 100,000 youths in Plateau with digital skills. Government and partner support fully funds and offer 100% scholarships to successful applicants. Participants will also receive world-class training in areas such as software engineering, mobile development, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, product management, and more. Future Africa and Miva Technologies backs up this ambitious training program. They are two of the most forward-thinking institutions helping to build Africa’s digital talent pipeline.
Governor Mutfwang’s digital vision
The strongest validation of Governor Mutfwang’s digital vision came in April 2025. This was when Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, visited Plateau State. During his visit, Dr. Tijani announced the federal government’s intention to convert Jos’s historic Standard Building into one of the national headquarters for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) in Nigeria. He praised Governor Mutfwang’s leadership. He described him as “forward-thinking” and deeply committed to creating meaningful opportunities for the youth of Plateau state. The Minister emphasize that Plateau state is uniquely positioned to benefit from BPO jobs. This is due to its strong educational foundations, high English proficiency, and talented young population.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang digital strategy is not limited to skill and infrastructure. It reflects a more profound belief in the potential of Plateau state people. By creating access to global tech opportunities and bringing the digital economy closer to underserved communities. The administration is actively restoring hope and ambition among the youth. The work is methodical, inclusive, and purpose-driven, precisely the kind of leadership the nation needs at subnational levels.
With two years already in the bag, Governor Caleb Mutfwang stands out as a state leader and a tech reformer. He has redefined what’s possible for Plateau and set a precedent that other governors may well follow. This is a time when the Nigerian economy desperately needs innovation. The state needs job creation and digital inclusion. Plateau State is showing what intentional governance can deliver.
The governor’s efforts have elevated the profile of the state and have placed its youth on a path toward global competitiveness. If the last two years have proven anything, it is that the digital future of Plateau has already begun. The time is no longer coming, the time is now!
