Plateau State is known for its beautiful scenery, cool weather, and strong agricultural sector. Today, coffee is becoming one of the products creating new opportunities for farmers, businesses, and young people across the state.
Thanks to its cool climate, high altitude, and fertile soil, Plateau has the right conditions for growing Arabica coffee, one of the most popular and valuable coffee varieties in the world.
The growing importance of coffee in the state was recently highlighted during the maiden Coffee Festival International Nigeria held in Jos. The event brought together coffee farmers, investors, experts, and industry players from different countries, drawing attention to Plateau’s potential as a coffee-producing destination.
The festival also showed that coffee is more than just a drink. It is a business that can create jobs and generate income for many people.
Speaking at the event, Lingzhi Global Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Blessing Nanman said coffee offers opportunities for everyone, not just farmers.
According to her, people can earn a living through different parts of the coffee business, including farming, processing, packaging, marketing, distribution, and barista services.
“There is job creation in coffee,” she said.
Nanman explained that growing interest in coffee is already helping farmers in Plateau State. Farmers who once struggled to find buyers for their coffee now have people coming directly to their communities to buy their produce.
She also shared the story of a farmer who became interested in coffee after attending one of the company’s programmes. The farmer later started a coffee nursery business and earned over ₦7 million from selling coffee seedlings.
Stories like this show how coffee can create income and improve lives.
Beyond helping farmers, coffee also has the potential to attract investment, support small businesses, and create jobs for young people.
As more people learn about the opportunities in the coffee industry, many stakeholders believe Plateau State can become one of Nigeria’s leading coffee-producing regions.
With its favourable weather, fertile land, and growing number of coffee entrepreneurs, Plateau is well-positioned to benefit from the rising interest in coffee.
For Plateau State, coffee is not just a crop. It is another opportunity to grow the economy, support local farmers, and showcase the state’s agricultural potential to Nigeria and the rest of the world.
