Plateau State Governor, Barr. The market, developed under JMDB’s supervision, features 165 shops, including 16 warehouses, 133 lock-up shops, 15 small shops, 116 stalls, and open spaces for hawkers. With capacity for over 2,000 traders, it also includes a motor park and parking lot to enhance accessibility.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Mutfwang described the facility as a “lifeline” for traders who had long been displaced and left without stable business spaces.

“This market is not just a trading hub; it is a lifeline for our traders, particularly women, who have endured harsh conditions for years. In line with our people-centered approach, I have directed that displaced women be given priority in shop allocations,” he said.

The governor emphasized that the project is part of his administration’s Greater Jos Master Plan, which aims to develop modern, functional cities that support commerce and investment. He further revealed plans to rebuild Kugiya Market, Jos Main Market, Maraban Jama’a Market, and other neighborhood markets across the state.

Governor Mutfwang praised JMDB’s General Manager, Arc. Hart Bankat, for his leadership in delivering the project, describing the agency’s revival as proof that “with the right leadership, every institution can function.”

Arc. Bankat, in his remarks, thanked the governor for his support and CTM for donating land for the project. He disclosed that construction began in July 2024 and was completed in record time. He also announced that phase two of the project is already underway with additional land secured for expansion.

“This clean and well-organized environment will boost economic activities and transform Bukuru into a modern trading hub. With phase two in progress, we are confident this project will redefine urban development in Plateau State,” he said.

Goodwill messages were delivered by the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Daniel Gapyil Naanlong; Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Sylvanus Dongtoe; Managing Director of Spade Investment Ltd, Gari Kim Wayas; and traders’ representative, Yakubu Muhammad. They all highlighted the project’s role in empowering women and strengthening the state’s economy.

Governor Mutfwang urged traders and community members to take ownership of the facility by ensuring proper maintenance and sustainability.

“Our goal is to leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of Plateau people. Together, we can build a prosperous and resilient economy for today and for generations to come,” he said.
