The Plateau State Executive Council, under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has approved a series of landmark projects aimed at accelerating infrastructure development and improving the quality of life for residents across the state.

The approvals, granted during the council meeting held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, include strategic investments in the justice sector, water supply, health infrastructure, renewable energy, and urban development. These initiatives reflect the administration’s commitment to building a prosperous and people-centered Plateau.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Joyce Ramnap, mni, said the projects cut across key sectors critical to the state’s long-term sustainability. “The council reached far-reaching decisions to address core challenges in health, security, and economic development, with a deliberate focus on inclusive growth across all three senatorial zones,” she stated.

Major Project Highlights Include:
• Justice Infrastructure: A ₦6 billion contract has been approved for the construction of a modern Ministry of Justice headquarters. The facility will consolidate key legal institutions such as the Law Reform Commission, Office of the Public Defender, and Anti-Human Trafficking Committee under one roof.
According to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Philemon Audu Daffi, “This edifice is not just a building it’s a symbol of the rule of law and our dedication to protecting civil liberties. It will enhance access to justice and serve as a deterrent to crimes such as land grabbing and trafficking.”

• Water Projects: The Council approved the procurement of water treatment chemicals worth ₦1.293 billion, alongside the construction of three isolated water schemes in Angware, Fursom, and Fobor at ₦294 million. These initiatives target water-stressed communities in Jos East, aiming to combat water scarcity and prevent waterborne diseases.
• Public Sanitation: In response to recent cholera outbreaks and sanitation concerns, the government will construct public toilets across markets, office areas, and other high-traffic locations. The Ministries of Health and Water Resources will jointly implement the project to align with global standards for hygiene and open defecation eradication.
• Solar-Powered Streetlights: To enhance security and improve night-time visibility, especially around critical corridors such as the expressway leading to Yakubu Gowon Airport, the government has approved the installation and maintenance of 129-watt solar-powered streetlights in dark spots across Jos metropolis.
“We are determined to light up Jos and make it safer. This initiative is a game-changer,” said Ramnap.
• Market Road Upgrades: The asphalting of internal roads and car parks at Bukuru Market in Jos South LGA has been approved at a cost of ₦180 million. The project will be executed through direct labour to optimize costs and extend infrastructure to more communities.
“We’re focused not just on awarding contracts, but on delivering value through efficient, cost-effective implementation,” Ramnap added.
On the health front, the Commissioner for Health announced that these interventions are aligned with the upcoming Plateau State Council on Health meeting scheduled for August 18–21, 2025, at Crispan Hotel, Jos. The event will gather key stakeholders, including WHO, UNICEF, and IHVN, to assess progress and develop a five-year health roadmap.
“These projects reaffirm Governor Mutfwang’s commitment to delivering tangible benefits to citizens,” Ramnap said. “Each approval speaks to a broader vision of restoring public trust, strengthening institutions, and building a resilient, forward-looking Plateau.”
