Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has approved changes to the management structure of Plateau United, appointing the club’s former Sporting Director, Gideon Izang, as its new General Manager.
Izang’s appointment is part of a management review by the state government aimed at repositioning the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side for improved performance, stronger administration and greater accountability.
The development was announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Arc. Samuel Jatau.
According to the statement, Dr. Alhassan Yakmut will continue to serve as Chairman of the club in an acting capacity until further notice.
The changes represent a fresh administrative direction for Plateau United, with the state government placing renewed emphasis on the club’s institutional structure and day-to-day operations.
Izang moves into the General Manager’s position after serving as Sporting Director. His previous role gave him involvement in the club’s sporting operations, while his new appointment places him in a broader administrative position.
As General Manager, he will be expected to play an important role in coordinating the club’s operations and helping to implement the government’s vision for its development.
The government says the management review is intended to promote professionalism and provide clearer strategic direction. It also hopes the changes will strengthen accountability and create a more effective structure for managing the club.
For Plateau United, the development comes at a time when attention is also firmly on performances in the NPFL. The Peace Boys are looking to improve their results and re-establish themselves as a competitive force in Nigerian football.
However, strengthening the club will require more than changes in personnel. Effective administration, proper planning, financial discipline and a stable sporting structure will all be important in achieving the objectives set by the state government.
Izang’s appointment therefore presents an opportunity to build on his previous experience at the club while taking on wider responsibilities.
The coming months will provide an indication of how the new management arrangement works and whether it can deliver the improvements expected by the government and Plateau United supporters.
