The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally welcomed the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, into the party during a historic reception at the Polo Field in Jos. The event attracted top national figures, including the Vice President, governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives, and thousands of supporters.

In his keynote address, Vice President Kashim Shettima described Plateau as a land of unity and sacrifice, noting its long tradition of leaders committed to peace and reconciliation. He praised Governor Mutfwang for choosing dialogue over division, stressing that the decision reflects statesmanship and a commitment to national cohesion.
Shettima stated that the Governor’s defection to the APC would unlock stronger federal support for Plateau, accelerate development projects, improve security, and create employment opportunities for young people. He specifically mentioned the planned recruitment of 1,000 Forest Guards and the long-awaited Akwanga–Jos Road, which is expected to boost connectivity and economic growth across the state.

The National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, formally presented the party flag to Governor Mutfwang, describing his entry into the party as a major boost that will strengthen unity and cooperation in Plateau State.
Governor Mutfwang described the occasion as historic, marking the beginning of a new political journey aimed at positioning Plateau as a key player in the 2027 general elections. He emphasized that his intention is not to dominate the party but to strengthen it and govern in the interest of all citizens.

Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, applauded the Governor’s decision, calling it a significant step for Plateau State and the North Central region. He assured that the National Assembly would continue to support peace initiatives, protect religious harmony, and assist displaced persons in returning to their communities.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, described the defection as a historic moment that unites the North Central region. He urged Governor Mutfwang to prioritize reconciliation within the party while focusing on peace and development in the state.

Governors and leaders from other states, including Sen. Hope Uzodimma of Imo State and Engr. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, also welcomed Governor Mutfwang into the APC. They noted that his decision strengthens the party, renews hope, and promotes unity and collaboration across the North Central zone.
The Chairman of the Central Planning Committee and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives thanked national leaders, party members, and the people of Plateau State for their support, describing the event as a historic turning point that signals a brighter future for Plateau and Nigeria.
Overall, Governor Mutfwang’s defection represents a strategic realignment in Nigerian politics, positioning Plateau State as an influential force ahead of the 2027 elections while promising renewed focus on peace, development, and unity under APC leadership.
