Plateau at 50: State Government Unveils “Sing for Plateau” to Redefine Identity Through Art

The Plateau State Government has launched a new creative initiative tagged “Sing for Plateau,” aimed at discovering and showcasing the state’s abundant creative talents while rebranding Plateau’s image through arts and culture.

The initiative, unveiled under the Time Is Now Administration through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor on Creativity and Entertainment, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Hospitality, is designed to provide a platform for Plateau creatives to tell their own stories using music, poetry, dance, and digital content.

Speaking at the launch, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Creativity and Entertainment, Barr. Ezra Jinang, said the maiden edition of the programme coincides with Plateau State’s Golden Jubilee celebration, making it a timely opportunity to spotlight the state’s rich cultural heritage, creative strength, and positive identity.

According to him, the initiative seeks to counter negative narratives about Plateau State by projecting its true story through creative expressions, while also encouraging young talents and positioning the state as a major hub for creativity in Nigeria.

“We want to tell our stories ourselves using our arts and creativity. Since this maiden edition coincides with Plateau’s Golden Jubilee, we will use it to celebrate our God-given land at 50, showcasing talents that have made Plateau a hub for creativity in Nigeria,” Jinang said.

Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Tourism, Culture and Hospitality, Cornelius Doeyok, assured that the Plateau State Government is fully backing the initiative, describing it as a strategic move to change negative perceptions about the state and position the creative economy as a key driver of Plateau’s development.

“The more positive content we create about Plateau, the better the perception outside the state. This initiative will help redefine Plateau and tell stories that have never been told,” Doeyok stated.

The General Manager of the Plateau Tourism Corporation, Mr. Chuwang Pwajok, described the project as another step toward unlocking Plateau’s vast creative potential, noting that the state has historically produced many successful creatives across Nigeria. He added that the initiative will further position Plateau as a hub for creativity, entertainment, and investment in Nigeria and West Africa.

Similarly, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Tourism and Culture, Ephraim Dankyes, welcomed the project, describing Plateau as “the home of creativity, talent, and art,” and pledged full support for initiatives that promote the state’s cultural identity.

Submissions open on February 3, 2026, and will run for three weeks.
