The Plateau State Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) has carried out a two-day intensive sanitation and roadside clearing exercise across Jos, aimed at promoting a cleaner and safer environment for residents. The operation, conducted over the past two days, mobilized about 300 community workers alongside PEPSA’s internal sanitation staff.

The cleanup targeted locations where overgrown shrubs and bushes had begun obstructing major routes, posing risks to both motorists and pedestrians. Clearing activities covered several key corridors and communities, including Polo to Hill Station Roundabout, Old Airport, Secretariat to Airforce Base–Yingi Road down to Rayfield, Rayfield Resort to Gut-Dwoi Road, Murtala Way, and Millionaires Quarters Road–Lamingo Road. PEPSA noted that similar exercises will be extended to other parts of the state.

Throughout the operation, workers cleared blocked drainages, trimmed dense vegetation, and restored roadside spaces, significantly improving road visibility and public safety. PEPSA officials provided supervision to ensure coordinated progress.

Representing the Director General, Samuel Dapiya, the Director of Waste Management, Mrs. Naomi Longlam, appealed to residents and business owners along the cleared routes to maintain the improved environment. “We encourage everyone to trim shrubs, remove debris, and support this effort. Keeping Plateau clean is a collective responsibility that requires the participation of all,” she stated.

PEPSA emphasized that such sanitation exercises help prevent bushfires, reduce pest breeding areas, improve road accessibility, and create healthier surroundings. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with communities to sustain environmental cleanliness and public safety across Plateau State.
