Plateau State Governor,Governor Mutfwang renews commitment to sports and youth empowerment ahead of NUGA Games

The Plateau State Government is ramping up preparations ahead of the 27th Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) to be hosted by the University of Jos, as Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang renews his administration’s commitment to sports development and youth empowerment.

During an inspection visit to the J.T. Useni Stadium one of the major venues for the upcoming Games Governor Mutfwang expressed satisfaction with the level of ongoing works and reaffirmed the state’s full support for the successful hosting of the national event.

“It is a great honour for Plateau to host the NUGA Games. From day one, we resolved to stand with the University and ensure these Games become a success story. Plateau will give NUGA its full backing,” the Governor declared.

Governor Mutfwang further assured of comprehensive government support in logistics and security, emphasizing collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure the safety of athletes, officials, and visitors.

“Security remains our top priority. We’ll make sure every participant enjoys a peaceful experience and leaves Plateau as an ambassador of peace,” he stated.

Acknowledging the University’s efforts despite limited resources, the Governor stressed the need for sustained maintenance of sports facilities even after the Games. To guarantee smooth coordination, he directed the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development to operate temporarily from the Games Village during the competition.

Acting Director of Physical Facilities, Arc. Pam Bot, briefed the Governor on completed and ongoing projects, including the Tartan Track, indoor sports hall, and the Taekwondo Hall donated by the South Korean Embassy. He also commended the state government’s sponsorship of the stadium fence, track, and pavilion renovation.

Chairman of the University Sports Committee, Prof. Ishaya Pam, highlighted remaining areas requiring attention including the hockey and cricket pitches, swimming pool, and accommodation for over 7,000 athletes and officials expected.

Reaffirming his administration’s focus on youth and sports, Governor Mutfwang pledged continuous collaboration with the University, underscoring that sports promotion, youth development, and peacebuilding remain central to his “Time Is Now” agenda.
