Plateau State is fast becoming a model of reform and renewal under the leadership of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang. This much was affirmed when senior journalists from across the country, under the umbrella of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), paid him a courtesy visit at the New Government House, Rayfield, Jos, on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

Far from a routine stop, the visit underscored national recognition of Governor Mutfwang’s growing profile as a visionary leader whose administration is defined by bold governance reforms, peace-building efforts, and ambitious infrastructural development.

Welcoming the editors, Governor Mutfwang expressed heartfelt appreciation for the media’s balanced reportage during his legal battles, crediting their professionalism for shaping fair perceptions about Plateau at a critical time. He acknowledged the press as a vital partner in sustaining peace, transparency, and democratic governance.

Reiterating his commitment to peace and prosperity as the pillars of his administration, the Governor highlighted decisive steps such as the revival of Operation Rainbow, prompt convening of the State Security Council, and the establishment of a modern Security and Information Center. These measures, he explained, are designed to keep communities safe and rebuild public trust.

From rural roads to urban flyovers, Governor Mutfwang showcased ongoing and completed projects across all 17 local government areas. These include:
• 380 kilometers of rural roads under the World Bank-assisted RAMP project
• The completed Utong-Kong flyover
• Strategic investments in roads, markets, agriculture, and industry aimed at diversifying Plateau’s economy beyond federal allocations

The Governor emphasized his administration’s education agenda:
• 50% tuition reduction for Plateau indigenes
• 300% increase in scholarships
• Targeted interventions that revived struggling tertiary institutions
According to him, these measures are preparing Plateau’s youth to compete favorably on a global stage.

Health care delivery is also on the rise. Upgrades at the Plateau Specialist Hospital and the expansion of health insurance enrollment from 93,000 to 208,000 beneficiaries reflect the administration’s focus on affordable and accessible services.

Agriculture remains central to Plateau’s prosperity agenda. Governor Mutfwang noted collaborations with IITA Ibadan, the revival of BARC Farms, investments in livestock breeding, feed production, and plans for a modern abattoir capable of processing 500 cattle daily.

He acknowledged the challenge of imported food glut but assured that innovative strategies are underway to boost processing, market access, and Plateau’s agricultural value chains.
The Governor highlighted renewed investor confidence in Plateau’s tourism sector, pointing to ongoing redevelopment of Plateau Hotel, Hill Station Hotel, and Jos Wildlife Park through public-private partnerships. Tourism, he stressed, will once again become a cornerstone of Plateau’s economy.

Speaking for the visiting delegation, NGE President Eze Anaba commended the Governor’s peace initiatives, his revival of The Standard newspaper, and his determination to restore calm in previously troubled communities. He called on Plateau’s people to keep telling their own story, noting that the state’s transformation deserves a national audience.

Governor Mutfwang also fielded questions on employment, land security, and infrastructure. He assured Plateau citizens of transparency in recruitment, pledged to combat land-grabbing in border areas, and pressed for the long-overdue completion of the Jos–Bauchi–Gombe federal road, awarded since 2018.

He ended with a reminder to journalists about their role in shaping national discourse responsibly, stressing:
“The media plays a critical role in strengthening democracy. I will always encourage you to do your job, but we must all be mindful of how information is framed and its potential impact on society.”

The visit concluded with a guided tour of ongoing projects across the state. The NGE delegation capped their trip by inviting Governor Mutfwang to address their upcoming national conference in Abuja another testament to Plateau’s rising influence under his watch.
