GOVERNOR MUTFWANG SEEKS FEDERAL AGRIC INVESTMENTS, CAUTIONS PARENTS AGAINST CHILD TRAFFICKING

September 11, 2025 – Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has urged the Federal Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) to channel strategic investments into Plateau’s agricultural sector, describing the state as Nigeria’s next food production hub.

The Governor made the call on Tuesday while receiving MOFI’s delegation, led by Executive Director of Investment, Dr. Femi Ogunseinde, at Government House, Jos.

Highlighting Plateau’s fertile soil and favorable climate, Mutfwang said the state can drive large-scale agribusiness. “Virtually everything grows here—grapes, avocados, strawberries, vegetables, and the famous Miango pepper. If fully harnessed, these resources can guarantee food security and genuine food sovereignty for Nigeria,” he stated.

The Governor lamented Nigeria’s low agricultural productivity, citing potatoes as an example: “While Plateau farmers produce seven tons per hectare, farmers in the Netherlands harvest 40 tons. We must close this gap and reposition ourselves as the giant of Africa.”

Dr. Ogunseinde, in response, described Plateau as an “untapped treasure,” pledging MOFI’s support in modern farming, processing facilities, agricultural zones, and global export pathways. “Soon, the world will know Plateau potatoes, roses, horticulture, and dairy. What we need is your support in eliminating bureaucratic barriers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Governor Mutfwang also appealed to parents and guardians to guard against child trafficking after receiving Miss Dorcas Shut—a Plateau indigene rescued with her daughter in South Africa, nine years after being trafficked.

Expressing gratitude for her safe return, he warned against false promises of opportunities abroad. “Some never return. Let this be a lesson to others. We will support Dorcas to rebuild her life,” he assured, while warning traffickers that his administration will continue to clamp down on their activities.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Caroline Dafur, commended the Governor for approving Dorcas’ return flight, describing him as deeply committed to protecting Plateau children.

Overcome with emotion, Dorcas recounted her ordeal and advised young girls: “Out there, you’ll hear enticing promises, but there’s nothing for you. They will exploit you and abandon you. Don’t fall for it.”
