The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has inaugurated the committee responsible for planning and executing the Plateau State Festival of Arts and Culture (PLAFEST) 2025.
PLAFEST is a flagship cultural initiative designed to celebrate the state’s rich heritage while driving economic diversification through tourism and cultural investments.
Represented by his Deputy, Ngo Josephine Piyo, Governor Mutfwang noted that the initiative is in line with the “Time is Now” administration’s agenda, which seeks to reposition Plateau’s economy by harnessing its vast cultural and artistic resources.
“Plateau State is endowed with enormous natural and human resources. It has diverse cultural values and artistic practices, but unfortunately, these unquantifiable skills have not been fully tapped for the social and economic benefit of our people,” he said.
He emphasized that the administration is committed to promoting the state’s cultural and artistic potential as a catalyst for economic growth. According to him, the festival will not only serve as a revenue-generating platform but also as an opportunity to project Plateau’s unique cultural identity to the world.
“Our vision is to ensure economic diversification by exploring the vast opportunities in the tourism sector. We want to build on our heritage, traditions, and artistic treasures to boost domestic tourism,” the Governor added.
Governor Mutfwang charged the committee to deliver a festival that will reposition Plateau as the “Home of Peace, Tourism, and Hospitality” and showcase the state’s artistic and cultural richness to both national and international audiences. He expressed optimism that PLAFEST 2025 will mark a significant breakthrough in the state’s tourism and economic development.
In his response, the Committee Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Dayok, expressed gratitude to the government for entrusting them with the responsibility. He acknowledged the high expectations placed on the committee and pledged their commitment to ensuring the festival’s success.
