Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has officially launched the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP) a cutting-edge e-learning platform designed to make quality education more accessible and effective across the state.
The launch, held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Twin Theater, Government House, Jos, marks a major step in the state’s drive to expand digital literacy, especially in rural communities.
Governor Mutfwang expressed gratitude to UNICEF, TECNO Mobile, Airtel, and other partners for supporting the initiative, describing digital literacy as a “necessity in today’s world.” He urged the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and other stakeholders to ensure rapid adoption and directed the Ministry of Education to develop a strategic plan for full digital integration in schools within the next two to three years.
Highlighting the success of the pilot at GSS Kuru, the Governor pledged statewide replication and announced collaborations with the Federal Ministry of Communications and major telecom operators to improve broadband access through fibre optic installations.
Representing UNICEF Bauchi Office, Mr. Abdulrahaman Ibrahim Ado noted that the NLP will reduce out-of-school rates and enhance learning outcomes for over 2 million children in Plateau, both online and offline.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Kachollom Gang, emphasized the goal of making technology a standard feature in every community, while SUBEB Chairman, Mr. Samuel Amuna, called for increased education funding in line with UNESCO’s 26% budget recommendation.
Leaders of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) and ANCOPSS pledged their full cooperation for the program’s success. The event concluded with the presentation of routers to 50 schools, marking the official rollout of the Nigeria Learning Passport in Plateau State.
