Plateau Government Hosts EU Delegation to Expand Partnership on Peacebuilding, Youth Engagement, and Infrastructure Development

A high-level delegation from the European Union (EU) and Search for Common Ground has paid a working visit to the Plateau State Government to deepen collaboration in peacebuilding and sustainable development.

Led by Gift Omoniwa, Acting Country Director of Search for Common Ground, the team assessed the impact of the EU-funded IRENEW project, which has successfully promoted interfaith harmony and youth engagement across the 17 Local Government Areas of Plateau State. The initiative also facilitated the creation of the Plateau State Youth Interfaith Forum (PYIF), in partnership with the Plateau State Peacebuilding Agency.

The delegation was received by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Ramnap, who reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Caleb Mutfwang to peace and social cohesion through initiatives such as the Inter-Religious Council, Plateau State Peacebuilding Agency, and Operation Rainbow.

EU Team Lead, Mr. Ruben Alba, accompanied by Program Manager Winifred Achu and other officials from Search for Common Ground, expressed the EU’s readiness to support the state in early conflict response mechanisms. Alba also highlighted potential EU contributions in key sectors like Agriculture, ICT, and Infrastructure.

The meeting was attended by key members of the state executive, including Commissioners for Commerce, Housing, Works, and Science and Technology.

The visit underscores Plateau State’s strategic engagement with international partners to drive peace, development, and long-term stability.
