The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, paid a solemn visit to Binda in Tahos Village, Riyom Local Government Area, following a brutal attack that claimed several lives and left many injured. The early morning assault on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, allegedly carried out by suspected Fulani militias, also saw the destruction of homes, a church, and looting of villagers’ food supplies.
The Governor was visibly moved by the devastation and stories of survivors, who recounted how the heavily armed attackers stormed their community while military personnel stationed nearby failed to intervene effectively. No arrests have been made so far.
In an emotionally charged address, Governor Mutfwang condemned the attack as terrorism and genocide—not a farmer-herder clash. He assured residents that his administration would overhaul the state’s security structure and ensure accountability.
“By the grace of God, Riyom will not fall,” the Governor declared. “We will use every resource available to end this genocide. These are not unknown gunmen. Real people committed these crimes, and they must be brought to justice.”
He commended the bravery of young defenders across affected communities, promised government support, and called for unity, vigilance, and calm. He also directed security forces to stop arresting scapegoats and focus on capturing the real perpetrators.
“This is not a peacekeeping mission. You are here to protect lives and property. Anyone who threatens that is an enemy of the state and must be treated accordingly,” he told security agencies.
Governor Mutfwang extended his visit to Gwong, Fang, Keng, and Rachi communities in the Bachit District, where similar deadly attacks were recently recorded. He sympathized with the victims, promised dignified burials for the deceased, and pledged support for displaced families.
During the visit, Rev. Davou Musa, CAN Chairman of Riyom LGA, criticized the military’s failure to protect the people and called for their withdrawal from the area, citing alleged complicity. He also appealed for urgent humanitarian aid for survivors.
