Plateau United have won the Plateau State Federation Cup after a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Mighty Jets International at the New Jos Stadium, in a final that carried extra emotion following their women’s team’s heavy defeat earlier in the day.
The win served as a response for Plateau United following Plateau United Queens 3–0 defeat by Mighty Jets Mata in the women’s final earlier today.
The men’s final was a tense and tactical battle from start to finish, with both sides struggling to break the deadlock in a goalless first half despite creating half-chances.
Kazeem Adeyanju came close early for Plateau United, while Mighty Jets also threatened through Terhemba Akor, but neither side could find the finishing touch before the break.
After the restart, Plateau United made key changes and were rewarded almost immediately.
In the 53rd minute, Kazeem Adeyanju reacted quickest inside the box to convert a Majalisa delivery and give Plateau United a 1–0 lead.
Mighty Jets International pushed for an equaliser, with Benjamin Ujah going close in the 69th minute, but Plateau United remained compact and disciplined at the back.
Despite late pressure from Mighty Jets International, Plateau United held firm to see out the game and secure the trophy.
A win that earned Plateau United men’s team the title, completing a day of mixed fortunes after the women’s team earlier lost to Mighty Jets Mata in the female final.
Meanwhile,Mighty Jets continue their long wait for the state Federation Cup, a trophy they have not won since 2016, despite reaching another final but falling short again.
