Plateau United Queens defender Veronica Kefas has earned a call-up to Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, ahead of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
Kefas, who has been one of the promising young defenders at Plateau United Queens, was rewarded with the national team invitation following her steady development in domestic women’s football.
One of her early career highlights includes winning the state FA Cup with Plateau United Queens , a success that helped raise her profile and contributed to her recognition at national level.
The Flamingos, now led by newly appointed head coach Akeem Busari, will face the winner of the first-round clash between Niger Republic and Guinea in the second round of the qualifiers. The fixtures are scheduled for May as Nigeria continues its push to qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria will be aiming to improve on their strong performance at the 2022 edition of the tournament, where they finished third. The target this time is to go further and compete for the title.
For Kefas, this call-up represents an important step in her career as she looks to translate her club performances into success at international level and push for a place in the final squad.
As preparations continue, attention will be on emerging talents like Kefas, who will be eager to take her opportunity and establish herself in the national setup.
